Assignment 2 Gender Bias

Dr. Beedle,

Here is the Assignment two of the Gender Bias. I found it on my jump drive.

I sent it in again to turnitin.com. So hopefully, you can view it now. It was in there to begin with I guess it never went through maybe there was something wrong with the system.

The explanation of gender bias is based on the way someone perceives someone else due to their sexual gender such as male or female. Someone may prefer one sex over the other sex. But in gender bias related to computer is totally different it has to with the use of computers and they way that computers work. (An Educator's Guide to Gender Bias Issues, N.D.)
There is a gender gap and a gender bias in technology. It has been proven that the use of computers is higher in boys than girls throughout their school years. Girls are starting to make their way up the latter but still aren’t there yet compared to the male gender. Boys are more involved in the computer science and computer clubs than the female gender so this is where the wide gap stands. (An Educator's Guide to Gender Bias Issues, N.D.)
Girls seem to lose their interest in computers because we as female see computers differently than males. One reason may be related to the way teachers teach technology in the schools. Another idea is that there are no role models that girls can look up to in regards to using technology. (An Educator's Guide to Gender Bias Issues, N.D.)
The way to encourage females for using technology starts at home with the parents, teachers and educators have the tools to help them understand technology and the way it works and encourage them to use a computer. Parents can be the most positive roles models for girls to become interested in technology is by listening to their ideas and give positive feedback. In conclusion we see gender bias within technology as being complicated at times. But to make technology not so complicated it again starts with the parents, educators and the manufactures that can make technology easier to understand. Google Groups IT 365 Hen House

So we had to have a team leader who was Amy and we created a name for our team the IT 365 Hen House and we asked random questions and we had to respond to the questions.

One was do we have any children and everyone in the group had to respond to one another.

Pretty interesting.

Teacher's Website

Basically, I created a web site about a spelling challenge. That on Monday's my students would receive a list of spelling words to help them study. That it would be multiple choice test every Friday. I gave some web sites that they could go to help them practice. As well as practice test.

Exit Questions for IT 365

1) How would you explain technology integration to a future student's parents?
Basically I would say that we would be using the Internet to research for reports, watching video that pertain to technology like the sexting video. That they would be learning about blogger, twitter and meta search.

2) Give an example of how you would integrate the subject matter from a class or classes taken this semester with technology.

You can use technology in the classroom with science, and social studies

3) A. Give an example of hardware and software.
Hard drive, CD, floppy, jump drive, keyboard, mouse, joystick.

B. Give an example of a browser.
Fire fox, and Internet explorer

C. Give an example of a search engine.
dog pile.com, meta-search.

D. Give an example of a spread sheet program and data base program.
access

4) Out of a legal issues we discussed in class, what do you believe is the most important for the future classes you will teach.
That in a classroom to use videos they have to be approved first. That we are not allowed to bring a video into the classroom and use it.

5) If the partners were randomly chosen, do you believe working with partners is a computer lab is worthwhile? Why or why not?
I feel that it can be worthwhile to have a partner in a computer lab because sometimes two heads are better than one. Both people can research information and come up with different thoughts and ideas to make the project better.

6) Several of you have mentioned adding class assignments that are outside of the computer lab (i.e. Football game, recycling). Name on technology-based activity that would work outside of class. Any type of sporting event work work like hockey, golf, basket ball, movies concerts. This would be fun because a student can bring that into the classroom and discuss what technologies was used.

7) If Twitter is to be used in future IT 365 classes, what recommendation would you make so that we have a more user-friendly experience?

I think that twitter is very user friendly. I think it is a good idea to use in a classroom but guidelines need to be set better and that it should only pertain to school stuff not outside just texting of nonsense. I just think that people need to be more conscientious about what they are tweeting about and at what times they are tweeting.

8) What technology related activity, etc. did you learn from this class, that you didn't know before enrolling and that you feel confident enough to do or use on your own without any help? I did not now about twitter or about blogger and now I know how to use both and I really feel that I can get around and definitely use both of these programs.

9) What technology-related subject/area/program, etc. did we not cover that you feel should be caved in this class in the future?

It would have been cool to learn more about Edu Ware. I think that was a pretty interesting site that could be used in a classroom. Very user friendly and informational.

10) what technology-based activity in this class do you feel was most beneficial to your future as an educator? I really liked doing the concept maps and and creating a website was pretty interesting. I really did enjoy the class overall.

Adaptive Technologies

Dawn Musso
April 22, 2009

1. Marilyn realizes how important it is to keep student’s learning styles in mind when planning instruction. What activities do you think will be helpful in addressing the learning styles of your students?

Scene 1

Of course it’s important to implement many different types of learning styles. There are a variety of different types of learn styles to help students learn better and more efficiently. One reason being is that each student learns on a different level and in order to reach your students one must try different scenarios. As educators we want to keep our students attention and give them the best education as possible. One way is through visual, kinetic, and audio. Visual is anything that can be seen on a board, paper, book, internet, intranet, video, cd’s, maps, puzzles, mazes or games. Kinetic is basically hands on which would have your students interact with the internet, intranet, video, multi-media, keyboard, mouse. Next is audio a lecture, video, music, movie, presentation, speech synthesis or tutorial. There are so many different options out there on how an educator and teach their students.

2. Marilyn felt comfortable consulting with Juanita’s expertise. How would this type of collaboration help your instruction and benefit your students?

Scene 2

For someone who may be just coming into the teaching field collaborating with an experienced colleague can be beneficial to an educator. Of course, coming into this new field we have ideas of how we think we might be able to get our students to learn but sometimes it can be difficult because not each student has an easy time of grasping a specific subject or it can be that they just don’t know how to study correctly. So speaking with a fellow colleague about some ideas that you might have or questioning a colleague about how they might go about something can help benefit. I feel that it can’t hurt it can only benefit the teacher, colleague and students. There is nothing wrong with asking for help and it’s important to have a good report with you fellow colleagues to feel comfortable to bounce ideas off one another.

3. How is Marilyn using graphic organizer to enhance the lesson? How will this use of graphic organizers help Oscar? From early in Scene one she didn’t know who to meet Oscar’s needs.

Scene 3

Marilyn obviously enjoys Eric Carle books about natural habitats and wild animals. So she read over his books and decided to give a project to her students. Of course she research on the internet what website would be related to Eric Carle as well as finding a video on Eric Carle. Marilyn gave a whole group lesson on Eric Carle book. So then she gave them an assignment to map out on graphic organizer. Graphic organizer is great because they can be used before a lesson so that the student can get prior knowledge of the subject, guides, their thinking, and helps with their vocabulary. It helps the students stay focused on the topic at hand and organizes their information correctly. It seems to be almost like a concept map but maybe better. Using the graphic organizer is fun way to learn, organize, retain, recall, and get facts and concepts about a topic. This is a great way to help a diverse group of student to get them to learn.

There is nothing about Oscar in this Scene. So I don’t know how it will help him.

4. A WebQuest was used to help students navigate the Eric Carle Website. Reflect upon your experiences using the Web to locate information. What difficulties have you encountered that might be addressed by using a WebQuest?

Scene 4

WebQuest is a very helpful program that is offered to student of any age. It is an easy way to navigate on the internet to information pertaining to subject such as Math, Science, English, Social Studies as well as Languages. Which I found pretty interesting because when I was in school the only language that was offered was Spanish and French. I wish back then they would have had this type of software to help me when I needed it. But as an adult I can use it now so that is pretty neat. As an educator you want to be careful on which website you have your students search information on because not all internet sites are reliable for example Wikipedia. There was lesson, text books on-line, practice tests, games all types of things to offer help and to advance a student in preparation of tests. It also was helpful not just for the student but for the teacher as well. One can view the each states requirement for students. The only things I really thought was that is were pretty expensive and must be upgraded yearly. So that can become costly for a school.

5. List and describe three benefits the students gained from being included in Oscar’s small group.

6. Do you think Oscar’s experience would have been as powerful if he would have worked in isolation with Juanita? Why or why not?

Scene 5

Juanita worked one on one with Oscar using the speech synthesis, graphic organizer, tiered assignments. She also took four other kids and put them in a group with Oscar. This was a great idea support from his fellow peers. Smaller groups are sometimes better because the kids start to put their heads together and this helps each child learn, retain and recall the information especially if they may be having problems learning.

I don’t think that Oscar’s experience would have been as powerful if he just worked with Juanita alone. Sometimes I feel that classes are too over crowed and the children who struggle in the class get left behind. I know this from experience. The teachers are trying to get through the lessons and the kids who grasp it great and the ones that do not get recognized and that is pretty sad. So having children break up into small groups and using the techniques that the teacher used help the child to learn because she can focus on the areas that are the weakest. The support of ones peers helps too because in a smaller group lots of ideas, discussions, concepts are brought about and this get the other students thinking and retaining what is being said and it can be applied.

7. Describe three ways in which Marilyn’s use of technology addresses the needs of her class and allowed all students to participate in the lesson?

Scene 6

Her students learned how to search for biographical data using WebQuest and her students learned the importance of writing elements and the artistic approach to Eric Carle as an illustrator. She used guide notes that she and Juanita develop and apply a video to it to keep the retention and focus of her students. All this was going to help the students write a book which would incorporate the wild animals and habitats they learned about in science. They did a WebQuest which is similar to a concept map that would lay out a story line with setting, characters, a problem, solution, and virtues in their map. It would have illustration, title, dedication page and information about the author. They also finger painted colored papers with textures to add to the book. Then it the book was created to iMovies and later on had to write a reflection on their learning experience that occurred as part of the process of creating a book. This was all very interesting and something that I think would be a great idea to get children to learn about a specific subject.

University of Southern Mississippi Scrimmage Game

I was only at the game for an hour but I had a good time with my classmates. It was nice to get out of the classroom and do something different.

I was wondering how we would see technology in a football game but then I realized of course, the scoreboard is a form of technology that keeps the scores for both teams.

There was a man on the ground with a camera filming the game so that is another form of technology that is used to also show the people at home what is going on with the game. It also shows the officials in the play box an instant replay of a play that my have a penalty.

The one who was the coach was where a head piece microphone. Which he might have been communicating the the official box above us to let them know what was going on. He might also have been communicating with the quarterback going over plays. Or he could have be communicating with the other coach.

So that is how you tied in football and technology with our class. Pretty interesting.

Mutiple Intelligences for Adult Literacy and Education

Here are my scores for the second test

Intelligence
Score (5.0 is highest)
Description

4.71
Nature: You are sensitive to nature and environment. You probably know the names of rocks, flowers, birds, and trees. You love to be outdoors. Here are some ways to use your nature intelligence in your learning:
Work in the garden.
Read about plants and/or animals.
Study habits of fish or birds.
Read nature magazines.
Go hiking. Take photographs of what you find on your hike. Write a story describing the photographs.

3.71
Language: You enjoy enjoy saying, hearing, and seeing words. You like telling stories. You are motivated by books, records, dramas, opportunities for writing. Effective techniques of enhancing your learning using your language intelligence include reading aloud, especially plays and poetry. Another idea is to write down reflections on what you've read. You may also enjoy exploring and developing your love of words, i.e., meanings of words, origin of words and idioms, names. Use different kinds of dictionaries. Other ideas:
Keep a journal
Use a tape recorder to tape stories and write them down
Read together, i.e., choral reading
Read a section, then explain what you've read
Read a piece with different emotional tones or viewpoints — one angry, one happy, etc.
Trade tall tales, attend story-telling events and workshops
Research your name

3.71
Musical: You like the rhythm and sound of language. You like poems, songs, and jingles. You enjoy humming or singing along with music. You probably remember things well when they are associated with music or rhythm. Try to incorporate sounds into your lessons, such as using a familiar tune, song, or rap beat to teach spelling rules, or to remember words in a series for a test. Here are some other ways to use your musical intelligence:
Create a poem with an emphasis on certain sounds for pronunciation.
Clap out or walk out the sounds of syllables.
Read together (choral reading) to work on fluency and intonation.
Read a story with great emotion — sad, then happy, then angry. Talk about what changes — is it only tone?
Work with words that sound like what they mean (onomatopoeia). For example: sizzle, cuckoo, smash.
Read lyrics to music.
Use music as background while reviewing and for helping to remember new material.
Use rhymes to remember spelling rules, i.e., "I before E except after C."
The scores for your other five intelligences:

3.71
3.43
3
2.57
1.57

Just because these five are not in your top three doesn’t mean you’re not strong in them. If your average score for any intelligence is above three, you’re probably using that intelligence quite often to help you learn. Take a look at the Practice section to see how to engage all your intelligences.

Bismark Tribune- Sexting

I found another article that is similar to the others about sexing. It is amazing how many of these young teenagers are sending explicit photos of themselves over the cell phone.

A 16 year old girl got a citation because she was unruly. Her mother notified the police because the girl was fighting with her mother. Obviously this girl has issue because she was taking these photos of herself because it made her feel good about herself.

I feel that society today is not helping these young girls because of what is being seen on television, idols and in magazines today.

Everywhere we see SEX. In our commercials from beer to cars it is all directed towards sex. Television programs which are reality shows such as the Bachelor, Real World, MTV, Victoria Secret, Sex in the City. We see that television is geared toward these types of shows. Even television is geared towards more teen series like Dawson Creek that used to be where teens are having sex. What does this society tell our children. That is is okay to have sex at a young age. These kids want to look like the models on Victoria Secret commerical because that is what society expects. But all in all that is not what the average women looks like.

So why are we so surprised when these children do these types of things. We advertise it everywhere.

As parents we should know the where abouts of our children. We should block things such as my space or other web pages where pedophiles can get a hold of our children. Television channels can be locked with your current cable company. There are steps that we as adults must take. I know that we can't watch every more and that it isn't always the parents fault because as parents we do our best to teach our kids right from wrong. And it is up to the child to take which road on the path to life.

Again, I don't agree with this or condon it at all.

Nature/Frogs: The Thin Green Line

I found a video on PBS that I think would be educational to use in my classroom. The site to go to is http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nat

At the University of California of Berkeley Tyrone Hayes and his students are studying how chemicals that we use in our agricultural is effecting frogs. Harsh chemicals that are used as fertilizer along with pesticides in our crops are killing frogs. These pesticides used are running off into our water system. These chemicals case stress hormones which creates immunosuppression in frogs. Genetic male frogs are not becoming female frogs and laying eggs. There is a chemical that is used on strawberries that is a nerve gas that humans are digesting into their system.

Tyrone Hayes has found large amounts of Atrazine chemical used in our crops. California is the first largest in using chemicals in agriculture than Florida is the second.

He is concerned that these chemicals being used are killing off frogs, and causing major genetic physical changes, as well as the frog becoming extinct what is it going to do to humans.

I found this video to be very interesting. I knew there was some sort of chemicals being used but I did not know it was these types that are causing genetic changes and that the frog was becoming extinct. I think that this video would be great to be used in a classroom. It was very informative and makes one open their eyes to what kind of chemicals are being used in our agricultural.

Sexting

I watched the video about the boy who was convicted of child pornography again, I feel the same way I felt about the young girl.

Okay, yes, this boy made a huge mistake. He sent a nude picture of his girlfriend that he had a fight with to everyone on her call list. This was definately wrong, embarrassing for the girl and it effected lots of people on both sides of the spectrum.

But the punishment is way to harsh. The boy is not a child molester. He didn't hurt a child. I feel that I the fine for $1500 or more and some community service and maybe seeing someone for why he did what he did would be sufficient.

But to be kick out of college, can't live with dad, lost his job, and he is now a registered sex offender is preposterous.

I think that the law has taken this too far. I am not condoning what he did by any means, but the girl wasn't to bright either to be sending stuff like that via the phone. As kids we have all done stupid things in our life. I know that I have sure have. Hind site is 20/20 and if I could take back some of the stuff I did I would but we learn from our mistakes.

This kid life is destroyed. He will always be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life. Always going to have trouble finding a job amongst other things.

It just amazes me when you need a law for domestic violence against a women they don't come. You try to get a court order of protect which is a piece of paper that they person you got it against breaks. The law tells you they can't really do anything until he actually tries to harm you. Ain't' that something. But by then it is too late.

I am referring to a true story about Thurman women who husband beat her, stabbed her over thirty times, stepped on her neck, cut her face all while the law stood there watching. She had filed over and over complaints to the police department and had court order protection but nothing was ever done. So when you need the law its not on your side.

Compare this with the too. I don't know call me crazy. It goes from one extreme to another extreme.

Like I said, I don't condone what was done he should be punished for what he did but he is definitely no sex offender. Now if he did something to a small baby or child heck yeah, I would throw the book at him.

NJ Girl arrested

I was really stock to read this article about this young 14 year who may go to jail for 17 years for child pornography.

She text her boyfriend a sexual picture of herself to him. I don't think that was a smart idea to do something like that since she is just a teenagers. But I don't feel that she should got jail for 17 and be charged for possession of child pornography. And have to file as a sex offender. I think that the law is wrong on this part. You want to punish the girl that is fine figure another way or get her help because she is needing some help but not something like this that will destroy her life forever.

I think that when you need the law they're not there for people and when you don't need them they come in making up these rules and laws that are so far fetched it is ridiculous.

But this must should be eye opener for parents everywhere. That they really need to start paying more attention to what their kids are doing these days. This starts at home. Instead of parents just letting their kids do what they want because it gets them out of their hair parents need to be more involved.

The Primate Stress Club

1. Do you feel that you are low hostile or high hostile?
I believe that I am low hostile I do get upset or angry at some time but I don't feel like I am high hostile.

2. What do you feel are agressors in your life?
I feel that work is an agressor for me as well as school at times. My job is very hectic and right now I am the only one doing five peoples jobs. So yeah, it is a agressor.

3. Out of the three patients thatdoctors are researching, which one do you think is high hostile and angry?

I feel that the white guy that they were researching was a high aggressor. I forgot his name. But he was talking about someone who broke into his house and his kids were coming home. He was very upset which is understandable.

4. What do these findings suggest to you about your own lifestyle?
That I need to take better care of myself and try not to let the stress of work and school get the best of me.

5. What are the negative medical effects the research team discovered happens from high hostile and angry person?

High blood pressure, increased heart rate, reproductive problems, stomach problems clog arteries leading to a heart attack, ulcers and eventually all this could possibly kill.

The Lost Mitten

The Lost Mitten
By Dawn Musso

Hi, I am a mitten.
This is how my story begins in New York City. I was laying down in a show case in the department store in Macy’s. It is very lonely here with no one to call my own just my neighbor the gloves.
It’s starting to get real cold out winter is coming upon us finally. Maybe just maybe, someone will come in the department store and like me, buy me and take me home with them.
Mittens are much warmer than my neighbor the gloves. Why, is that you ask? Because four of your fingers touch each other and your body heat keeps you hands warm.
My neighbor the glove has a space of its own for each finger and no body heat to keep them warm.
Here come some people looking for mittens. Hey! Hey! Pick me, pick me.
Oh! What good is this doing, they can’t hear me, and mittens can’t talk. Bah!
It would be so nice to have an owner and his or her family to take care of me and makes part of their family.
Oh! Oh! She’s looking at me. Hi please, please pick me. I’m such a pretty color pink and I promise to keep you warm for the winter. Yeah! I should be so lucky for her to pick me out of all the rest.
Yes, yes, she picked me up. Hooray! She is taking me to the register to buy me. Yeah!
Oh thank heaven finally I’m going to have someone to love me. Someone to take me wherever they go, to the park, the stores, the movies, to school, out to dinner, just everywhere. This is going to be so much fun. Not like being alone laying in a show case in Macy’s department store.
My owners name is Grace. She is a very pretty little girl; she has blue eyes and freckles with blonde curly hair similar to Goldie Locks in the Three Bears story. I hope her mother puts her name and address inside me, so if I should get lost someone would be kind enough to bring me back home to Grace. Oh, I knew that this was going to be so much fun Grace takes me everywhere she goes. I have been living with Grace and her family for two months now.
But, one day Grace thought she put me in her coat pocket, but, she missed and I fell on the ground. I lay on the ground all night while people past me by, stepped on me, kick me to the side of the road, ignored me, boy! Oh boy! I was really having a bad night.
The next morning this little old man who has gray hair, brown eyes, and has a sweet kind face he saw me on the ground looked around and did not see anyone I could have belonged to. I prayed, pick me up and read me, please! He picked me up and he saw a tag with Graces name and address on it. He took me to Grace’s house and Grace was so happy to see me.
I said, thank you, thank you so much for getting me back home to Grace and my family. Of course, he could not hear me, but I’m sure he new I was very happy.
Grace was so happy she was jumping up and down, so happy to have me back home with her again to keep her hands nice and warm all winter long.

I really like this site. It was easy and fun to do. Something that I would definitely use this in my classroom with my students. It would be helpful in many aspects of learning and it would make it fun for the kids to learn by creating flash cards.

GOING GREEN
Our going green idea is cutting down on paper waste, specifically from printers. Students are constantly printing here at USM in the computer lab. This would not be so much of a problem if students were not so wasteful with the paper. There are 14,810 students that attend the University of Southern Mississippi so just imagine how much it costs for supplies like toner, printer, computers, fax machines, photocopiers, ink, and paper, recycle bins and a recycle company to come and pick up wasted paper. We all have to admit that we print the wrong pages sometimes or realize we do not need what we printed. What do we do with it? We throw it right in the trash can and never think another thing of it. We found many resources supporting our idea of saving paper by cutting down on printing. Following are examples of our resources and explanations of what they are and how they save paper.
The first article we found was about new software called GreenPrint which was designed for a fortune 500 company. GreenPrint scans a document before it is sent to a printer. The software eliminates unnecessary pages and images, which saves paper and ink. GreenPrint users can select other pages and images to eliminate in addition to the pages that GreenPrint deletes automatically. The process takes a few minutes. This was done so that it could reduce paper waste. This is a major problem in today’s society how much we waste and how much money we spend. This program has a free 30 day trial period. The University could purchase this program for $35 which is half of the original price.
The company from the article is LTS, and their staff was the first to test the software. LTS staff member Jason Slipp says, "Technology can't solve our problems with printing, but it will help curb it.” The firm started to use this program and saw that it cut their paper decrease by 20 percent, so they decided to install the program to their media center. As a result of this installation of software 1500 pages were printed but only 5 percent was saved which lead to only a $5 in savings. With any new type of technology software being introduced to a firm or a college campus it takes time for everyone to get adjusted to the software and there are always so glitches.
The second article we found was about a new program that MSU is using called MavPrint. It works just like an ATM machine. The student sends the document to the printer and the MavPrint receives it and the money is deducted from the students account. Now of course, this is not the perfect fix to a situation. With MavPrint there is a 300 allotted page print at the beginning of each semester. If during that semester you go over your limited then they charge the student.
Go Print is another print monitoring system and it charges a small printing fee and saves thousands of dollars annually. There are over 300 College, Universities and High School campuses as well as Public Libraries, Medical Centers using this software. This program is being used in West Lafayette school. During the summer semesters the students are not charged for printing out any documents. It showed that 34 percent of waste was reduced. It allots the students 500 black and white pages to be able to print after the 500 pages a fee is implemented where the student will have to add money to a machine which is located on the campus.
The general ideas that we came up with to save paper on our own are using the computers on campus or labs to take notes and keeping the notes and homework assignments on a PDF, jump drive, floppy, CD, or a hard drive. There is also Google docs which is a service where your files have an online backup of your documents, and Word docs you can save PDF files, which help you get access to paper files so you don’t waste paper. If it was necessary to print out a document maybe there would be one printer in a main office that work could be sent to if we needed to print a limit could be set and a fee if needed. If we had to print set the computer and printers to print double-sided which helps cut down on paper use. The campus should provided recycle bins in every area where there is a printer, copier, fax machine. As students, we pay enough for our books and tuition each year and it keeps going up, but this may give us the incentive that we need to be more conscious of what we are doing before we waste so much paper on print documents that we begin to get charged for it.
With being mindful of our environment we can help save unnecessary trees being cut down and harmful greenhouse gases pollution our air that we breathe. This will also help with animals having some foliage to eat so they do not starve. This could help save trees and cut down on gases. We’re also depleting our forests, unnecessary use of energy, and chemicals to process paper which leads bad gases in the air for us to breathe.

Second Life

It was easy to go in and create the account and I downloaded the software but my computer is not able to handle the software. So I can't get in without it messing up my computer. So I haven't gone in and actually played around in the virtual world.

I Phone at ACU

I think that using the I Phone at a University is has it good points and bad points. The good points is that when you register at the University and setup your I Phone it orders your books, register for classes, 3D map of the campus. Students are able to post things just like on a blogger or twitter. Lots of Internet availability to search for things. One can take a hybrid class instead of a lecture class. So in those aspects it is good it has many helpful things that you can use it for.

But in the video the down fall to having an I Phone at a University is that a lot of the students were using it for personal stuff and that might take away from there learning time and studying time. They were surfing the web for tickets to the concert and down loading their favorite songs. So that could be a major distraction. It seem more for social interaction amongst the students.
I would possible like to try it but not sure I am more a person who prefers to be in a room where I can have the teacher lecture.

Going Green

Amy Barber
Dawn Musso
GOING GREEN
Our going green idea is cutting down on paper waste, specifically from printers. Students are constantly printing here at USM in the computer lab. This would not be so much of a problem if students were not so wasteful with the paper. There are 14,777 students that attend the University of Southern Mississippi so just imagine how much it costs for supplies like toner, printer, computers, fax machines, photocopiers, ink, and paper, recycle bines and a recycle company to come and pick up wasted paper.

This was done so that it could reduce paper waste. This is a major problem in today’s society how much we waste and how much money we spend. This program has a free 30 day trial period. The University could purchase this program for $35 which is half of the original price.
The company from the article is LTS, and their staff were the first to test the software.

With MavPrint there is a 300 allotted page print at the beginning of each semester. If during that semester you go over your limited then they charge the student.
The third example is from the University of Technology of Sydney. They did a collection every weekday for the study in 2007. The collection of cardboard and paper from recycling was 250 tons but only 10 percent went to landfills. This help save about 5000 trees and about 1500 tones of greenhouse gases.

Technology in Classroom

I feel that teaching young children’s technology in classrooms is a good idea. If we start with children at an early age they will be better prepared for the real world situation that they will come across in their daily lives as well as in the work force. They will have to learn to problem solve any situation. Children are very receptive to learning new things versus when older it’s sometimes harder or scary to be receptive to learn new things. Some children learn audio, visual or hands on. Technology is definitely hands on learning. Children are more confident, grades improved if not better; work well with other or independently.

Italy Concept Map

Italy
Entertainment
Venetian Carnival

Carnival, or Carnival, has been celebrated for centuries throughout Italy. The word may well derive from carne vale - 'farewell to meat' - which would explain the function of the celebration: an opportunity to indulge and use up such treats before the start of Lent (like an extended Pancake Day).
Teatro Alla Scala Opera House

The most famous opera house in the world, La Scala was built by Giuseppe Piermarini between 1776 and 1778. The opera house stands upon the ruins of the old church of Santa Maria della Scala, its namesake. Circled by greenery in Piazza Scala, a monument to Leonardo da Vinci provides the perfect backdrop for La Scala’s neoclassical architecture.
Historic Sites
Cirus Maxiumus

Little is left of the Circus Maximus in Rome. Marble seats and palatial boxes used to stream up the sides of the valley. At one time crowds of over a quarter million Romans would gather to witness the largest sporting events in Western Civilization, but now nearly all that remains is a lonely dirt track on a grassy field. The Roman Circus Maximus overlooked a variety of sporting events and religions processions - but the most famous of these were the wildly popular chariot races.

Uffizi Gallery

Rome is the capital of modern Italy. Rome is full of history everywhere you look. It has many ancient monuments, interesting medieval churches, beautiful fountains, museums, and Renaissance palaces. Modern Rome is a bustling and lively city and has some excellent restaurants and nightlife. The Vatican and St. Peter's are also found in Rome
Modern Cities

Pisa

Pisa is one of those cities that every traveler who sets foot in Italy must see at one point or another. The city’s famous leaning tower is one of the most recognized symbols of Italy, so it makes sense that it’s so high on most visitors’ to-do lists. The only trouble is that for most people, Pisa is little more than a two-hour lunch break en route from one city to another, where you dump your bags at the train station and head straight for the tower, climb to the top, take your photos, and leave. Consequently, the area right around the tower can be incredibly crowded, and the shops and cafes that line the beautiful piazza are usually really overpriced. But if you dig beneath the surface a bit, you’ll find that Pisa is actually a pretty average Italian town.
St. Mark’s Basilica

St. Mark's basilica majestically symbolizes the lagoon and enshrines the city's history. Possession of the saint's relics enabled the Republic to establish its authority, from 828 onward, over Grado and Aquileia. In 1063, under Doge Domenico Contarini, it was decided to rebuild the church on the same Greek cross plan as the previous one. In 1096 it was finished, but the decorative work continued until the beginning of the 19th century. The model had been furnished by the Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople (536-46); five domes covering the crossing and each of the arms, supported by large piers linked by arches. The light was thus directed towards the centre of the basilica, leaving the side aisles in comparative shadow."
Restaurants
Ristoran Te La
Da Felfina
The Restaurant Al Tonno di Corsa

The restaurant "A Fenestella", situated on Marechiaro, at the end of Posillipo's hill, starts up as small restaurant at the beginning of the last century; as regards its own name's origin, it's due to a "fenesta" (that is to say "a window") at which one Carolina used to appear. The same woman whom Salvatore Di Giacomo made famous in his passage "A Marechiaro".

Food

A Fenestella

The Restaurant Al Tonno di Corsa has a very typical kitchen based on fishes specialities.
It has a very nice location in the historical center of Carloforte and it has 80 seats, 40 inside and 40 outside on very panoramic terraces.

Ancient Cities
The Colosseum

The correct name is the Flavian ampitheatre, after the dynasty of emperors who oversaw its construction. The nickname Colosseum, or Coliseum, derives either from a colossal statue of the emperor Nero that once stood nearby which, according to the ancient historian Suetonius, was over 35 metres high (120 ft); or from the colossal dimensions of the building itself. The Colosseum stands below the slopes of the Oppian hill in a marshy valley encircled by the Coelian, Esquiline and Palatine hills.

Palatine Hill

The Palatine Hill (Latin: Palatium) is the centermost of the seven hills of Rome and is one of the most ancient parts of the city of Rome in Italy. It is some 70 metres high and looks down on one side upon the Forum Romanum and on the other side upon the Circus Maximus

Chapter Three

I think that teaching technology in classrooms is something that is important to bring into a classroom that is not only beneficial to the teacher but also his/her students.

Some people are afraid to use computers and teaching technology in a classroom can open students up to a whole new world out there and as well as for a first time teacher.

Having technology in the teacher curriculum helps to keep the students attention in the classroom versus just the regular daily lectures which sometimes student become bored.

This gets the students involved with searching different websites to see which ones are true website with the correct information for them to use. They can become better prepared for the real world. They can learn to read, write, spelling, compose papers and presentation all through using technology which will benefit them later on in life.

They become more confident, self-esteem, independence and patient. They can learn and work on new and up coming software programs and master these programs. It it proving that technology helps benefits in areas of math, science, social studies, language bring up grades for students who may have trouble in school. They become more motivated and sometimes work on their own time on projects.

Learn how to problem solve with technology. They interact more with fellow students and share their knowledge.

They learn about their communities, news, and environment. They can find things out about other countries, and cultures outside their own safe zone.
